About Tharaka-Nithi County
Tharaka Nithi County is situated on the southeastern slopes of Mount Kenya, bordering Meru, Embu, Kitui and Isiolo counties. Kathwana serves as the county headquarters while Chuka is the main commercial town. The county ranges from fertile highlands to the drier Tharaka plains, supporting diverse farming systems. Communities include the Chuka, Tharaka, Mwimbi and Muthambi. Agriculture dominates the economy through tea, coffee, bananas, dairy farming, maize, beans and horticulture. Tourism benefits from Mount Kenya forests, waterfalls and scenic landscapes. Rich cultural traditions are maintained through music, storytelling and community ceremonies.
